Martin Michiels: Body, Harmony, The Moment

My Journey: From the Vibration of Strings to the Awareness of Movement

My name is Martin Michiels. My path has always been guided by the search for precision—whether in a note, a posture, or a perspective.

Originally a musician and guitar teacher, I was quickly confronted with the limits of my own body. Back pain and tensions related to instrumental practice led me to the Alexander Technique. It was a revelation: I discovered that we don't just play the guitar with our fingers, but with our entire being. In 2011, I decided to become a teacher to share this freedom with others.

The Accident: A New Depth of Empathy

In 2019, a serious fall and a broken vertebra called everything into question. This moment of vulnerability became, despite itself, an opportunity. By applying the Alexander Technique to my own rehabilitation, I gained concrete experience in managing pain and medical injuries.

Three Disciplines, One Philosophy

My work today revolves around three pillars that nourish each other:

The Body

Alexander Technique

To free yourself from unnecessary tension and regain a fluid sense of self, whether you are sedentary, athletic, or an artist.

Harmony

Guitar

To learn the instrument without forcing, linking musical pleasure to respect for physiology.

The Moment

Photography

To cultivate another form of presence. Photography is for me the extension of conscious observation: being there, fully, to capture light and emotion.

Why work with me?

My approach is pragmatic and grounded in common sense. No esoteric jargon, but a method supported by scientific research. My goal is to provide you with concrete tools to detect your limiting habits and transform them into efficient movements. I welcome you to my studio in Rixensart, a calm space under the roofs, conducive to disconnection and listening.

"Alexander Technique is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, but it changes the way you live in your body every day."

My Journey in Brief

  • Since 2014: Qualified Alexander Technique teacher (AEFMAT & ATAS).
  • Since 2011: Intensive continuing education (3 years) under the guidance of Monique Vanormelingen and Claire Destrée.
  • Musical Expertise: Musician and guitar teacher since 2007, specialising in the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders in artists.
  • Visual Perspective: Photographer passionate about capturing the moment and presence.

Beyond diplomas and techniques, what drives me is seeing you regain a freedom you thought was lost. What if we started this journey together?
